Bitcoin ETFs just absorbed 11,500 BTC in their biggest buying day in nearly two years

US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) drew nearly $1 billion as the price of BTC surpassed $86,000, setting their best inflow performance of 2026.

According to SoSoValue metrics, these funds registered $999 million in net inflows on Sept. 21, marking the highest daily sum since Oct. 6, 2025, when the offerings brought in approximately $1.2 billion.

Viewed through the lens of Bitcoin volume, the surge was even starker. The ETFs took in roughly 11,530 BTC—their biggest single-day net addition since Nov. 11, 2024, when they gained about 12,560 BTC. This influx coincided with Bitcoin climbing past $86,000 and briefly trading above $87,000, hitting its highest point since January.

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) topped the field with $381.4 million, followed by the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB) at $289.1 million and Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) at $238.8 million.

Bloomberg Intelligence ETF analyst Eric Balchunas noted that these three funds constituted over $909 million of the aggregate total, while every one of the six largest products contributed to the day’s gains.

Balchunas pointed out that for IBIT, the $381 million addition was its fourth-highest daily intake ever. He highlighted the uneven rhythm of recent share creations as a positive indicator, suggesting that irregular inflow days are more indicative of dispersed retail and institutional activity rather than moves dictated by a single large model.

Record Bitcoin ETF inflows arrive without a trading-volume surge

At the same time, the volume of these creations contrasts sharply with secondary-market activity.

James Seyffart, an ETF analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, reported that US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw roughly $4.5 billion in trading turnover during the latest session, sitting slightly beneath the nearly $4.6 billion recorded on Friday. This relatively mundane turnover was unusual given Bitcoin’s significant price jump and the sheer scale of the reported inflows.

The timing also complicates efforts to directly tie Monday’s ETF metrics to Bitcoin’s sudden breakout.

Balchunas explained that a large portion of the roughly $1 billion inflow likely stems from Friday’s trading and creation processes due to the inherent reporting lag of fund flows. Consequently, upcoming disclosures may provide a clearer picture of how investors reacted once Bitcoin pushed past $86,000.

“Look for more tonight,” Balchunas remarked.

That distinction places greater importance on the following market session. If Monday’s price rally spurred another wave of creations, these ETFs could build upon a sharp recovery from the outflows that previously pressured the market earlier this year, establishing a consistent source of spot demand as Bitcoin inches toward $90,000.
