Bitcoin developer Peter Todd is now in hiding. This follows new Satoshi allegations from an HBO documentary called “Money Electric.” Director Cullen Hoback claims Todd created Bitcoin. Sadly, these claims have put Todd’s safety at risk.

What the Documentary Claims
Hoback found links between Todd and Bitcoin’s early code. “Satoshi proposed Replace by Fee in the post Peter corrected. Years later, Peter would go on to write the code,” Hoback posted on X.
Todd says this is completely wrong. “I was simply pointing out a minor correction to what Satoshi wrote,” he explained. He noted users could edit posts on the Bitcoin forum instead of writing new ones.
Safety Becomes a Problem
Todd faces some real dangers now, unfortunately. “Obviously, falsely claiming that ordinary people of ordinary wealth are extraordinarily rich exposes them to threats like robbery and kidnapping,” he told WIRED. People won’t leave him alone. “So far, [it’s] a bunch of people asking for money,” Todd said.

Growing Fight
Todd says the film twists facts. “Cullen is grasping for straws here. He is playing up a few coincidences into something much more.” He calls it conspiracy thinking. Hoback fought back: “Peter was there that day. He knows what was discussed.” He added, “He’s had over a year to prepare for this moment. Peter’s got next-level game theory.”
The threats keep growing. Todd warns others about the risks. “Not only is the question dumb, it’s dangerous. Satoshi obviously didn’t want to be found, for good reasons,” he stated. More people now question who should look for Satoshi.
